Blue Eagles Suffer Maiden Home Defeat to Naivas.
Soy United’s impressive unbeaten home record came to an end on Sunday afternoon after a narrow 1–0 defeat to Naivas FC at the ASK Showground, Eldoret.
The fixture kicked off earlier than scheduled, starting at 2PM, following unpredictable rainy weather conditions experienced across the country. Both sides entered the contest with high intensity, eager to secure maximum points.
Soy United fashioned the first meaningful opportunity in the 10th minute when winger Peter Okello released Erick Ondeko down the right flank. The overlapping fullback surged forward before unleashing a powerful effort that sailed just over the crossbar. Ten minutes later, Naivas capitalized on a brief lapse in Soy’s midfield, pressing high and forcing a dangerous moment near the hosts’ defensive third. However, Robinson Kamura reacted swiftly to intercept the danger and clear for a corner, which was later dealt with safely.
As the rain began to drizzle midway through the first half, the tempo slowed before the downpour intensified in the 38th minute. Soy nearly broke the deadlock two minutes later when Dennis Shigami threaded a final pass into the box, but Naivas goalkeeper Eliud Emase collected comfortably. Moments later, the Blue Eagles found themselves in sixes and sevens as Naivas capitalized on an inswinging delivery that caused chaos in the box, eventually finding the back of the net right at the stroke of halftime to take a 1–0 lead into the break.
Head coach Jeffers Odongo responded decisively in the second half, introducing John Khanda and Clinton Oriffah for Peter Okello and Erick Namasaka respectively, a move that added urgency and attacking impetus.
Three minutes later, Evans Maliachi replaced Dennis Shigami, who appeared visibly fatigued by the heavy conditions. Soy continued to push forward, with Alfred Ratolo forcing a corner from a well-struck freekick near the area.
Naivas resorted to a more defensive approach, protecting their slender lead, as forward Brian Wanyonyi narrowly escaped a red card after a heavy challenge on Ondeko. In the 65th minute, left-back Elvis Shamala delivered a precise long pass to Maliachi, whose final effort narrowly failed to trouble the opposition, while Mohammed Wangai replaced the injured Erick Ondeko.
Soy mounted sustained pressure late in the game, registering three consecutive efforts that rattled the crossbar, cruelly denying them a deserved equalizer. Despite the relentless push, the visitors held firm to claim a 1–0 victory.
The result leaves Soy United winless in their last three outings, marks their first home defeat of the 2025/26 National Super League campaign, and only their third home loss in the last three years. The Blue Eagles now drop to 7th on the standings.
Next up, Soy United will travel to Embu on 1st March to face a rejuvenated 3K FC, as they look to bounce back to winning ways.
