MATCH DAY PREVIEW: Soy United VS Naivas FC
Soy United return to their home turf — the ASK Showground, Eldoret this afternoon to host Naivas FC in a National Super League Round 21 fixture, with kick-off set for 3:00 PM.
The Blue Eagles will be hunting for a return to winning ways after suffering a narrow 1–0 defeat away to Kibera Blackstars last Sunday in Nairobi — a result that snapped their impressive seven-game unbeaten streak.
Naivas FC, on the other hand, will equally be keen to rediscover their winning rhythm after settling for a goalless draw at home against fourth-placed Equity Bank FC last weekend.
This encounter marks just the second meeting between the two sides, following their first-ever clash on November 8th last year whereby Soy endured a 2-1 loss against the shoppers in the first leg at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology in Nairobi, where Soy United tasted their maiden defeat of the campaign.
The hosts have enjoyed a productive week in training. On Wednesday, they faced FKF 5th Division side Loreto Kings FC in a build-up friendly, cruising to a commanding 9–0 victory, a match that served as a valuable test run to fine-tune both their attacking and defensive units.
The Soy camp has further been bolstered by the return of forwards John Khanda and Clinton Oriffah, alongside versatile defender Jephtha Okiring, all of whom are back in contention after spells on the sidelines.
Soy United remain unbeaten at home this season, registering nine wins and two draws, a formidable record that gives them a psychological edge over their visitors, who have experienced inconsistent form in recent weeks.
Adding to their advantage is the experience of assistant coach Owen Makokha, who was part of the Naivas FC technical bench last season; insight that could prove crucial in decoding their tactical approach.
Speaking ahead of the clash, head coach Jeffers Odongo expressed confidence in his squad’s preparedness:
“We have had a superb week. We managed to review the shortcomings from the previous match, mainly our concentration and efficiency in front of goal. The players responded well in training, and we hope to get the desired result today.", he said.
