MATCH REPORT: Soy United beats Gucha Stars to move 5th in NSL standings.

Soy United extended their dominance in the FKF National Super League with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over rivals Gucha Stars on Wednesday afternoon at the ASK Showground, Eldoret.

The hosts started on a high note, piling pressure early in the first half. Dennis Shigami nearly handed Soy the lead in the 11th minute, only for his powerful effort to crash against the post.

Gucha Stars responded through Duke Nyamweya, who attempted to pierce Soy’s defence, but his effort was calmly blocked by Jephtha Okiring. The visitors then resorted to a more cautious approach, mixing defensive play with long balls that proved ineffective.

The breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute when Wattstak Mutsami lofted a ball into the opposition half. Alfred Ratolo won the aerial duel and flicked it on to Vincent Cliff, who calmly buried the chance to score his first goal of the season and send Soy United into the break with a 1–0 lead.

The second half saw the Kisii-based outfit return with renewed energy in search of an equaliser. Soy United, however, remained composed in possession. In the 62nd minute, head coach Jeffers Odongo made his first changes, introducing new signing and Kenyan international Robinson Kamura for his debut, alongside Mohamed Wangai and captain Kevin Odira. They replaced Peter Okello, Harryson Lutta and Erick Namasaka, a tactical shift aimed at reinforcing the team’s defensive structure.

Just two minutes later, dead-ball specialist Kamura nearly doubled Soy’s advantage with a well-taken free kick outside the box, but Gucha Stars goalkeeper Okeiyi reacted sharply to tip the effort out for a corner.

Gucha head coach Sammy Okoth responded by bringing on Ronny Onyango for Duke Nyamweya, though the substitution failed to alter the tide. Odongo later introduced Bruce Oduor and Erick Masafu in place of Alfred Ratolo and Dennis Shigami as Soy managed the closing stages professionally.

The win marked Soy United’s first-ever victory over fellow NSL newcomers Gucha Stars and lifted the Blue Eagles to fifth place on the log with 31 points. It also set a new club record of five consecutive wins in the second-tier league. Meanwhile, Gucha Stars’ struggles continued as they remained in the relegation zone, having failed to register a win in their opening five matches of 2026.
